After I finished my degree at York University in their acting conservatory, I auditioned for this show called Infinitum being produced by the Cheshire Unicorn in Toronto. They wanted unique talents and they wanted people to be able to perform aerial silks.
I was cast, and I hit the ground running, but was certainly not alone. With Melissa Major as our director and Faye Rawe as our choreographer myself and five other talented young women were in good hands. And we were ready to take our physical performance careers to new heights, literally.
We started the show in April with nothing and after a successful sold out fringe run we went back to the drawing board to develop more work for the piece. In October we presented the fully mounted version of Infinitum with aerials silks, contortion, acrobatics, hula hoop, tap dancing, magic, text and dance. It was a great success and the highlight of my performance career thus far. I know the people I met are people I will work with in the years to come.
I think its so important that theatre like this happening in Toronto. There are of course the big circus shows we hear about from Cirque du Soleil, but with our piece we were in the Annex Street Theatre which is a much more intimate setting, where we can see the audience and connect with them. I think it made the whole show that much more intense and magical.
The show is done for now but here are some shots curtesy of Omar Yukseker. I'll keep you posted if we ever do a re mount (fingers, toes and all other body parts crossed)
