Sunny day oh sunny sunny

I was called back for a big part on a TV series this past week. It felt so awesome to be recognized as an actor again. Not a circus artist or dancer who can act, but just a straight up actor. And it was for a series lead so that was pretty cool. Definitely my biggest audition so far and well, my first TV one so far. I was super proud of the work I did but unfortunately I didn't book the part. What I realized though was that I am a good actor and it felt nice to be reminded of that. Also, that the life I have set up for myself is wonderful. Of course booking it would have been the ultimate icing on the cake but I like my life the way it is so its not like I have to crawl back into some hole. It's so important as an actor to fill your time creatively so that you're not just sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. That would be absolute torture! Here are some things I do just to keep myself creative and satisfied

1. Solo dates. I like to plan times to be alone and roam around the city and sit with my laptop and a coffee and just BE. Helps to clear my head and make room for new ideas.

2. Blog. You don't have to blog like this one, but I like having a blog because then I'm sort of help accountable for it. No one is forcing me but I feel this obligation to keep the blog alive and full. So even if its just pictures I like, having this blog keeps me thinking and sharing. You could make it a journal or someone you meet with to write or anything!

3. Exercise. I'm so huge on this one. I'm in a unique situation because I coach and train in aerial arts so I always have a place to work out. But get into a yoga class, walk or sign up for something crazy like silks or rock climbing. Find ways to keep the body moving and alive (and healthy)

4. Date nights. Plan evenings with your special someone and your friends. Making time for the people that really matters always inspires me and helps me feel like a complete human being.

5. Don't wait. If things feel slow or boring in your creatively life, get out there and start something. Don't wait for the phone to ring. Make a project, collaborate with friends, research something. You as an artist should be active in your creative life. You have to initiate.

xo.
