Sunny day oh sunny sunny

I was called back for a big part on a TV series this past week. It felt so awesome to be recognized as an actor again. Not a circus artist or dancer who can act, but just a straight up actor. And it was for a series lead so that was pretty cool. Definitely my biggest audition so far and well, my first TV one so far. I was super proud of the work I did but unfortunately I didn't book the part. What I realized though was that I am a good actor and it felt nice to be reminded of that. Also, that the life I have set up for myself is wonderful. Of course booking it would have been the ultimate icing on the cake but I like my life the way it is so its not like I have to crawl back into some hole. It's so important as an actor to fill your time creatively so that you're not just sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. That would be absolute torture! Here are some things I do just to keep myself creative and satisfied

1. Solo dates. I like to plan times to be alone and roam around the city and sit with my laptop and a coffee and just BE. Helps to clear my head and make room for new ideas.

2. Blog. You don't have to blog like this one, but I like having a blog because then I'm sort of help accountable for it. No one is forcing me but I feel this obligation to keep the blog alive and full. So even if its just pictures I like, having this blog keeps me thinking and sharing. You could make it a journal or someone you meet with to write or anything!

3. Exercise. I'm so huge on this one. I'm in a unique situation because I coach and train in aerial arts so I always have a place to work out. But get into a yoga class, walk or sign up for something crazy like silks or rock climbing. Find ways to keep the body moving and alive (and healthy)

4. Date nights. Plan evenings with your special someone and your friends. Making time for the people that really matters always inspires me and helps me feel like a complete human being.

5. Don't wait. If things feel slow or boring in your creatively life, get out there and start something. Don't wait for the phone to ring. Make a project, collaborate with friends, research something. You as an artist should be active in your creative life. You have to initiate.

Color me...

Had my face paint done by the amazing Natasha for a  photo shoot to promote a show I'm doing at the MOD club with Dr. Eugene Draw March 31st. She was so fast and just fed off the energies she was feeling from me and created this work of art. I seriously didn't recognize myself. I'll post more info about the show soon.

Charge Complete

Just did a crazy performance with Dr Draw and my best friend Emily. We were improvising movement, vocals and violin and post show I am feeling exhausted and yet so wired all at once. It's definitely a system overload to improv in front of an audience while trying to listen to your scene partners and stay present. It was a wild experience and really informed the project I am working on.  Its a dark piece so as I'm digesting what happened I'm just trying to find images to express how I feel after such a performance. I think its important after any performance to debrief and especially if its an improv to record what you find so you can go back to it.

roaming

So many things have been happening over the past week I haven't gotten time to sit and blog and digest all the wonderful things. I quit my restaurant job and now am coaching and creating full time (which I mentioned before) I have some awesome shows coming up (don't worry I'll post). And am surrounded by lovely, creative people all the time. I feel SO fortunate! I won't say lucky...because I have worked my BUTT off trying to create this life for myself. And here it is. Just want I want and what I need.

I decided to take a little trip up to visit my grandparents the past two days and it was so so lovely. I fell into an early retirement with them of early mornings, lots of coffee, naps, read a book, went for drives for no reason and relaxed. It felt so nice. And spending time with them was the highlight, they are funny and smart people that I'm so proud to have in my life. But it felt good to get back to the grind today and back into my body! I know I have a good life when I miss it :)

Here are some highlights over the past weeks, some collingwood shots and some others from around TO.

don't just live your life...love it.

Blitzing Body

So as I posted a couple days ago I wanted to use the gift certificate for the spa my lovely ladies gave me back in AUGUSTf or my birthday. I finally did and it was so so wonderful!

It was for body blitz to use their therapuetic waters. They give you a robe and you can order from their delicious juice bar (which I did and I got this Vitamin D smoothie that was delicious) then you immerse yourself in different temperature water pools, with saunas and steam rooms in between. My body felt so alive and well. I went solo but Tuesdays are busy there because its a cheaper day. I recommend going with some friends because you can chat and lounge together. But it was nice to have some alone time with myself and read my book and relieve some stress and tension.

They have sale on scrubs this March...think I might have to try that next. This was a good reminder on how important it is to treat myself, take care of myself and indulge. Thanks ladies!
